“ Designing a space is more than an art… it’s psychology and science”

People nowadays are constantly living at a fast pace which is making them feel like their lives are chaotic. I’m sure all of us have at some point of our lives joined the “cult of speed” without even noticing. Everyday we try to take a step back, being present and conscious in the moment.

For the first time, we started to understand not only how profoundly at risk our planet is but also how careless everyday decisions are making matters worse for our world and the world we’ll leave behind for our future generations.

We spent innumerable hours and untold resources decorating a space with the unnecessary. Much of what we own has served no real purpose, except to fill large rooms. We had placed too much importance on “stuff”; we are abandoning authenticity for immediacy.

Learning to let go of our desires for more, more, more and instead creating a space in which to cultivate serenity is the first step towards a better – living space.

In the name of convenience, we sacrificed so much of the little pleasures of life which is cooking, exploring our local resources, and learning about each other. We take shortcuts anytime we can and to be fair to us, society encourages us to as what we are or what we have is supposedly never enough. This seems to be a bi-product of a hyper consumerism society which is made to keep us unsatisfied in order to buy more.

Over time, our connections to the natural world diverged in parallel with technological developments. Advances in the 19th and 20th centuries fundamentally changed how people interact with nature. Sheltered from the elements, we spent more and more time indoors. Today, the majority of people spend almost 80% – 90% of their time indoors, moving between their homes and workplaces.

When we talk about feeling at home or a space, we mean more than just our physical surroundings. We are referring to a state of tranquility in which we are free from worrying thoughts. Of course our state of being is influenced by our surroundings. We are continuously bombarded with sensory stimulation, causing our minds to become anxious and agitated, affecting our emotions, and making it more difficult for us to find quiet in ourselves.

OUR CONCEPT – “BETTER LIVING”

Designers Walk believe that a space should be blend of the clients values, cultures, and beliefs and we recognize that each project is an individual expression of our client’s unique personality. But we also believe that a space shall bring peace and harmony.

Our holistic approach of Design begins when we delve deep into the heart and soul of our clients to understand as much as we can about your personality, values, beliefs and artistic preferences. It is essential for us so we can then express visually to create personalized interior designs that are comfortable, eco friendly and reflect the modern lifestyles – the key to a better living in the future.

Considering the physical, mental, and emotional needs of people, and also the trends and lifestyle, we are inspired to relate our concept to “better living”.

Designers Walk embrace a process that incorporates multitude of essential elements to experiencing a building or space as a complete environment to its occupant. We are adopting a new approach to promote health, safety, welfare and better living interiors inspired by psychology of space, neuroaesthetic, sensory stimulation, sustainable design, biophilia design, minimalist design, zen design and the slow living culture as a holistic approach to design.

WHAT IS “ BETTER LIVING”?

The concept of Better living is to take the time to find beauty in what seems ordinary, and to turn the ordinary in something beautiful It is living in a more balanced, meaningful, life-affirming way and it is about understanding the little moments in life, happiness as a journey, that we choose to live everyday.

It makes space for a domestic life that places an emphasis on “being in the moment” and making room for the things that bring us pleasure and happiness. It is more than just creating a cozy ambience or a rustic, bohemian aesthetic. Take the effort to grind coffee beans instead of using instant coffee sachets. Make time and space for leisure.

Better living is the principle of slowing down to design homes and spaces that are sustainable, practical, functional and built to endure. It is not just about aesthetics, its about creating health focus spaces that foster well being and provide refugee from the stressful world we live in.

It involves the minimal designs, the sustainable choices, the way of living, plenty of comfort and the move towards a balanced and simple life.

It is the connection to nature and the senses. It is the state of tranquility in which we are free from worrying thoughts.
  • It features of a soothing palette which is natural and neutral. Think of the colors in nature – the blues of the sea, the greys of rocks, the greens of plants, the browns of trees and the golden beige of a sandy beach.
  • The use of natural textures like wood, bamboo and stone to create soft, warmth and inviting atmosphere.
  • Think plain and simple – An arrangement that provides a certain amount of intimacy while the softness encourages comfort and relaxation by the use of simple, comfortable and functional furniture and soft furnishings.
  • Balance of light by using large openings and warm artificial lighting make all the difference.
  • Keeping clutter free space which brings the sense of unity, cleanliness and organization.
  • A touch of green, what about a bonsai, some orchids or some lush plants? The plants help to add even more calm and create more oxygen in an environment. It is also all about letting the energy flow positively around the space.
WHY BETTER LIVING ?

We believe that space is a very crucial factor in architecture and interior designing and we need to know how to make the best use of it. Space has a great impact on our mood, behavior and overall physical being.

When we talk about space, it is the aesthetic appeal that most of us think about, which refers to its exterior look and feel. But there’s more to it than what seems to be on the surface and it is not just the functionality, but the psychology that matters too.

In our world today, along with boosting our immune systems, being mindful of how precious the gift of time is, working out and eating healthy foods, it’s crucial to our wellbeing that we feel happy, safe, and generally just good, inside and outside of our homes, at our workplaces – in our environments.

Designers Walk is implementing into its design practice, the new concept of better living. It shows how the brain and the interior or environment intersect and the role of how art and nature affect our well-being, mental health and influence our emotions. One’s connectivity to the natural environment through the use of nature such as bringing the outdoor elements indoors, can increase productivity, boost mood, heal the mind, body and soul in the workplace or home.

Design that speaks to the senses can evoke comfort and relaxation which make occupants spend more time in the space. Design is not only solely about what we see but it should interact with all of our 5 senses, which is the sight, smell, taste, touch and the sound.

A thoughtfully designed and customized approach to designing a space can be calming and welcoming to a client. “Design preferences are personal”.  What you and we like and respond to, can be completely different and is dictated by our genetics, conditioning and past experiences.

The definition of “good design for a client’s wellbeing” can vary from one person to another. We are not just designing for one type. People who are anxious, for example, tend to be more easily overwhelmed by a lot of bright colors, whereas these can help uplift people on the depressive side. Anxiety and depression are not static conditions, and they affect people differently at certain times of day.

We are designing areas that are more calming and areas that are more stimulating and let people move to where they’re going to be most comfortable.

That is why it is crucial for us to be an excellent listener and intuitive of what each particular client we are working with ,to enhance and get the most out of their daily living and working environment.

Whatever your preference is, our team plays in guiding you towards your own personal feeling of wellness.

The philosophy of better living here helps to create a more considered, beautiful, and intimate living space. Creating health focused spaces harmonize and deliver positive vibes to occupants and create a livable space that not only attribute with an aesthetic dimension. But also minimizing the resources involved in construction and effective use of space, selecting construction materials that offer low environmental impact and lowering pollution, waste and energy consumption.

“Better living” is favorable for minimalism and small space. The goal is to create affordable spaces that will operate simply and continue to be low maintenance for its users. It involves using the bare essentials to create a simple and uncluttered space. The de-cluttering of space helps to de-clutter the mind and to create a sense of visual calm.

Now, the idea that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature result in improving the well-being. In design, we bring characteristics of the natural world into built spaces, such as water, greenery, and natural light, or elements like wood and stone. Encouraging the use of natural systems and processes in design allows for exposure to nature, and in turn, these design approaches improve health and wellbeing. There are a number of possible benefits, including reduced heart rate variability and pulse rates, decreased blood pressure, and increased activity in our nervous system.

We are also bringing attention to the need of disable person and old citizens. More than grab-bars and wheelchair-accessible hallways, we are working on accessible design. It refers to the design of buildings, products and environments that are accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability. Conceiving an accessible interior does not mean forgetting about aesthetics.

A great interior designer who understands disabled persons’ needs will never copy the design of a hospital bathroom. Instead, it will allow everyone, including the elderly and persons with reduced mobility, to stay independent in their everyday life, in a comfortable, secure and beautiful space. We help persons with reduced mobility to rethink the design of their apartment or house, according to their personal mobility constraints.

As we embrace the Concept of BETTER LIVING, we make spaces that better reduce stress while improving cognitive function and creativity. Utilizing biophilic approaches in interiors, we can use botanical shapes and forms, as well as create distinct visual relationships to nature. These spaces connect us to nature as a proven way to inspire us, boost our productivity, and create greater well-being. Beyond these benefits, by reducing stress and enhancing creativity, we can also expedite healing.

Better living is just living slowly, in whatever and however way that means to you. It’s about knowing and passionately loving the things we value, and designing our lives to spend the most time possible enjoying them. It’s about having intentionality and consciousness in our activities, about escaping the mindless scrolling and unproductive multi-tasking and focusing on purposeful action. It’s about embracing the fact that you’re not doing it all – it’s about doing less, but better.

We are encouraging people to adopt the Better Life pace by freeing themselves from the trivialities of day-to-day life and by decluttering their home to open up spaces visually.

For those who are looking for a modern and calm oasis interior, feelings of serenity and also a physical change to their space, Designers Walk helps to reinvigorate their outlook on life and their day to day tasks.
